Jockey Club hosts 18 Districts Cup to celebrate close ties with community partners and their contributions to community development

The Hong Kong Jockey Club hosted the 18 Districts Cup today (21 May) at Sha Tin racecourse to celebrate close ties with its community partners and to thank them for their contributions to community development. Attending the celebration lunch were over 200 District Councilors, District Officers and community leaders, who were keen to discuss the latest district developments.

Club Deputy Chairman Anthony W K Chow, and Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, were joined by Under Secretary for Home Affairs Florence Hui, Member of the Legislative Council (District Council – First) and Member of North District Council the Hon Lau Kwok-fan, Duty Chairman of 18 District Councils and Chairman of Sham Shui Po District Council Cheung Wing-sum, Ambrose, and Duty Chairman of 18 District Councils and Chairman of Kwai Tsing District Council Law King-shing.

The theme for this year’s 18 Districts Cup - “Working hand-in-hand for a better Hong Kong” - reflects the Club’s shared commitment to the betterment of Hong Kong. In his welcome remarks, Mr Chow said, “We thank our community partners for their collaboration with the Club, to develop and organise numerous projects. Through this partnership, children, youth and families in the districts have benefited”. Mr Chow highlighted the Jockey Club Age-friendly City project which, through district partnerships, aims to improve the quality of life of the elderly in all 18 districts.
Mr Chow added that the Club is a not-for-profit enterprise. Through its integrated business model of world-class racing and racecourse entertainment, membership, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charity and community contribution, the Club generates economic and social value for Hong Kong. Looking forward, the Club remains committed to global excellence and giving back to society, and is always “riding high together for a better future” with the people of Hong Kong.
The 18 Districts Cup, which was first held in 2008, was won by Dennis Yip-trained Chung Wah Spirit ridden by Zac Purton today.
