03/17/2018

The Heep Hong Society Catherine Lo Centre at Sandy Bay, Pok Fu Lam has been redeveloped into an Integrated Service Complex following a donation of over HK$25 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. It offers a range of training and support services for children, adolescents with special needs and their parents.

The opening ceremony of the revitalised centre was held today (17 March), attended by Club Steward Dr Eric Li Ka Cheung; Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Carrie Lam; and the Heep Hong Society’s Chairman Peter Wan, and Chief Executive Officer Nancy Tsang.

Dr Li noted that the Club had worked closely with the Heep Hong Society since 1969, embracing the belief that an inclusive and mutually-respected society could help people with special needs to bring their talents into full play. “We are delighted to see that the redeveloped centre can accommodate extended facilities and services to support those in need at different points of life,” he said.

The ten-storey Integrated Service Complex, with a gross floor area of about 4,300 square metres, includes valuable new facilities such as the Jockey Club Hydrotherapy Pool which provides children with special needs with training and exercise to strengthen their muscles, increase their tolerance to exercise, and enhance their body balance; the Jockey Club Supportive Learning Fun World and Parents Resource Centre which offerssupport services for parents to enhance their capacity for coping with child care difficulties; the Jockey Club STAR Café and Community Support Centre which provides social and prevocational training for adolescents and youth with autism and related disabilities; and the Jockey Club Sky Garden which creates a green space for planting and inspirational training.

Over 2,500 children and youths with special needs, their parents and family members will benefit each year.
