05/28/2018

The ground-breaking ceremony of the Hong Kong Palace Museum took place today (28 May), officiated by Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman Dr Simon S O Ip and Deputy Chairman Anthony W K Chow; Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Carrie Lam; Director of the Palace Museum Dr Shan Jixiang; Deputy Director-General of State Administration of Cultural Heritage Liu Shuguang; Chairman of the Board of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) Henry Tang; Chairman of the Board of Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) Bernard Chan and other guests.

Dr Simon S O Ip remarked that many cities worldwide have their own signature museums and that the Hong Kong Palace Museum underlines Hong Kong’s status as an international cultural metropolis. “The Club is committed to supporting arts and cultural projects. This includes the revitalisation of the Central Police Station, which will provide Hong Kong citizens with a vibrant arts and cultural space to enjoy. We have also been working with the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Palace Museum on seven top-notch exhibitions, already launched or soon to be launched, including the ‘Treasure of Time’ exhibition this coming December,” he said. “The Hong Kong Palace Museum will enable citizens to visit and appreciate long-term exhibitions of national treasures, and will also promote Chinese culture to overseas visitors”.
