HKJC Soccer 4

Since 2016, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has been bringing the football field to the Sha Tin Racecourse concourse for the HKJC Soccer 4 tournament – a highlight of the Riding High Together Festival, held each year during the Easter holidays. The tournament gives elite players from local football clubs and district football teams the chance to put their best foot forward.

HKJC Soccer 4 is a 4-a-side game played without goalkeepers, which sets it apart from traditional football games that have 11 or 5 players in a team. The 4-a-side format allows young players to sharpen their football skills while promoting team spirit within a limited space. Held over three days, the games are divided into seven categories: Boys U13, Boys U15, Girls U11, Girls U14, School Boys, School Girls and Parents-and-Kids. Each team competes for the championship in their respective categories in ten-minute matches. The fast-paced, dynamic challenge with multiple goals creates additional excitement!

To provide parents of young footballers the chance to coach their children, the Club has designed the Parents-and-Kids tournament. The tournament is open to parents and children who have successfully completed the “Pass It On” Parents Workshop organised by the Club, the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) and Manchester United Soccer Schools. In 2008, Superstar coaches assisting the parent-coaches are the HKFA’s Grassroots Football Manager Samuel Bensley, Referees Manager Charles Cheung, and Specialist Conditioning Manager Mathew Pears; Head Coach of Manchester United Soccer School Christopher O’Brien; current Hong Kong team players Leung Nok-hang (and his father), and Mark Tan Chun-lok (and his coach Lee Chi-kin). This is a great opportunity for parents to support their children as they pursue their football dream!

One of the highlights of HKJC Soccer 4 is to watch a legendary Manchester United player in action. Denis Irwin, Park Ji-Sung and Peter Schmeichel have previously made appearances. In 2018, Bryan Robson was invited to be the guest instructor and present the tournament prizes.

If you’re a big football fan, you won’t want to miss this amazing football event! Can’t make it to the festival? Stay tuned for the live webcast, on 1 April 2018!
