Longines Masters and Asia Horse Week visitors experience Hong Kong’s passion for equine sport

02/13/2019

With many of the world’s top equestrian riders and industry leaders in town to participate in the Longines Masters of Hong Kong 2019 and second edition of Asia Horse Week, The Hong Kong Jockey Club tonight (13 February) took the opportunity to show them the passion that local people share for equine sport – by entertaining them to a welcome dinner and race night at Happy Valley Racecourse. They also learnt how the popularity of horse racing, which attracts over two million spectators a year, makes substantial contributions to society’s betterment through the Club’s huge tax payments and charity donations.

Established in 2013 with the Club as a Founding Partner, the Longines Masters of Hong Kong will take place this Friday to Sunday (15 to 17 February) at AsiaWorld-Expo. A top-level, five-star equestrian competition, it serves as the middle leg of the 2018/19 Grand Slam Indoor of Show Jumping. Highlights this year include the unique HKJC Race of the Riders, HKJC Asian Challenge, HKJC Asian Junior Challenge and HKJC Asian Junior Grand Prix which set new milestones in promoting equestrian development in the region.

Meanwhile, the second edition of the Asia Horse Week starting tomorrow, which also has the Club as a Founding Partner, is bringing together representatives from leading equestrian federations, regional horse clubs and the equine industry to exchange views with counterparts from around the world and discuss strategies for further developing the sport in Asia.
