Environmental Sustainability

For the Club, environmental sustainability is about much more than being a responsible corporate citizen. We act continuously for the betterment of our society.

Introduction

By optimising our resource efficiency, we can improve our business performance and help keep the Club competitive and sustainable.

By reducing our carbon footprint and minimising waste through reduction, reuse and recycling, we can set an example to the community at large, making full use of the Club’s many long-standing community partnerships to help create a greener, better Hong Kong for future generations.

Environmental Report
The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the “Club”) is pleased to present its Environmental Report 2025, covering the financial years from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2025. This report highlights the Club’s progress in managing its environmental impact, supporting environmental initiatives, and pursuing best practices. It complements and should be read in conjunction with the Club’s annual report and corporate website.

A key milestone for the Club was the first double materiality assessment of our Hong Kong operations in 2023/2024, which identified our most material sustainability topics. Amongst them were the top three environmental focus areas of greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy and energy use, and circularity (including waste management).

In support of the HKSAR Government’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the Club has established a greenhouse gas emissions inventory, which will inform the development of Club-wide Decarbonisation Roadmaps for implementation.

Meanwhile, the Club remains firmly committed to enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions across all operations where possible.

In terms of circularity, the Club continues to focus on responsible resource management by increasing efforts to source sustainably and to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. A new baseline assessment of our major waste streams has set the foundation for the development of a Club-wide Waste Reduction Roadmap.

This Environmental Report 2025 marks the final edition of the Club’s standalone Environmental Report. Moving forward, we will transition to publishing a comprehensive Sustainability Report, which will cover a broader scope of sustainability-related commitments and performance. This evolution reflects our dedication to transparency, accountability, and alignment with international best practices. The Sustainability Report will enable us to communicate our initiatives more holistically, demonstrating how we create value for our stakeholders and contribute to the well-being of our community. We look forward to sharing our ongoing progress and achievements through this new reporting format.
