Through its unique integrated business model and thanks to its strong operational performance the Club is able to contribute substantially. In 2024/25, the Club’s Charities Trust approved a total of HK$9.0 billion in donations to 202 charity and community projects. The Trust is one of the world’s leading charity donors.
Taking into account Hong Kong’s evolving social needs, the Trust has developed a matrix of strategic priorities for the 2025-28 triennium. Taking an impact-led approach, it will focus on five sectors, namely health, education, sports, culture and sustainability, and four expanded target beneficiaries and areas: children, youth in families; older adults; development of professionals; and fairer opportunities.
To create lasting impact, the Trust has initiated and implemented its own Trust-initiated Projects working in conjunction with the HKSAR Government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), academia and community partners.
In 2023, the Trust and the Club established the Institute of Philanthropy (IoP) as an independent “think-fund-do” tank for China and Asia, dedicated to promoting philanthropic thought leadership and enhancing sector capabilities at local, regional and global levels in collaboration with fellow funders.
In addition to the work of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Club reaches out to the community through a series of sports and youth programmes. Drawing directly on its business design and sporting event management experience the Club also supports the development of equestrian sports and community football.
In support of the equestrian events of the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which were held in Hong Kong, the Club provided HK$1.2 billion to fund the construction of competition venues. It also provided equine services during the competition itself. The Club was subsequently named as an Outstanding Contributor. The Club was similarly recognised for its support for the equestrian events of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games. As a legacy it constructed Conghua Racecourse on the site. The Club was also pleased to provide technical support for the equestrian events of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
Building on this success the Club is now supporting the development of equestrian sport in Hong Kong and the region. This includes the Club’s three public riding schools and its support for elite equestrian and para equestrian riders. Several riders have achieved great success in international competition, notably Hong Kong, China’s first ever Asian Games equestrian gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games and five medals at the inaugural FEI Asian Championships. Thanks to the efforts of Club-supported riders, Hong Kong, China also sent its largest ever equestrian and para equestrian team to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. Club-supported riders were also prominent in the Hong Kong, China team participating in the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. In 2025, the Club served as Founding Partner of the inaugural LONGINES Hong Kong International Horse Show, providing comprehensive support for the world-class show jumping competition. Football provides another opportunity for the Club to utilise its business expertise as a force for positive change at both individual and community level. In collaboration with Manchester United, The Football Association of Hong Kong, China and NGO partners, the Club has initiated the JC Youth Football Development programme to bring professional coaching, as well as leadership and life skills training, to Hong Kong’s young people - helping them grow physically, mentally and socially. Several have already been inspired to give back, sharing their learning as community football coaches.
Through its JC Junior Sports Reporters Programme offering journalistic training with practical on-field experience, the Club is helping young people improve their communication and expression skills, and acquire a professional and responsible attitude. And working in close partnership with districts, the Club seeks to address community needs at the local level, in many cases enlisting the support of its employee volunteer team, CARE@hkjc.
