The Club’s two racecourses at Sha Tin and Happy Valley are at the heart of Hong Kong’s racing and entertainment experience.
Sha Tin Racecourse can accommodate more than 80,000 people and is where all of Hong Kong’s 12 Group 1 events are run. Happy Valley, in the heart of the city, is Hong Kong’s most popular midweek entertainment venue, its Happy Wednesday race night parties drawing a vibrant and passionate crowd. Both racecourses are undergoing a substantial HK$7.2 billion revitalisation, transforming them into centres of world-class hospitality and sporting entertainment.
Hong Kong’s world-class racing, together with its vibrant racecourse atmosphere, are drawing increasing numbers of overseas and Chinese Mainland tourists. Between them Sha Tin and Happy Valley received over 400,000 tourist visits in 2025/26, a more than 100% increase over the previous season. As highlighted in the HKSAR Chief Executive’s 2024 and 2025 Policy Address, racing tourism is making an important contribution to Hong Kong’s tourism development. The Club is working with travel industry associates to further develop racing tourism while continuing to innovate and enhance the international appeal of the Club’s world-class racing and racecourse entertainment.
Hong Kong’s racecourses are a huge part of popular life – places to celebrate festivals and holidays, not to mention Hong Kong’s iconic racing events. From the ceremonial striking of the gong for season opening to the spectacular finale of season close, there is no lack of colour or excitement. National Day and Reunification Day bring ceremony and celebration. For Ladies’ Purse Day there is glamour and style. And at Chinese New Year attendance soars, with everyone hoping for a lucky start to their new year.
