03/10/2018

The Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Jockey Club Social Service Building in Ho Man Tin has been renovated with a donation of over HK$130  million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, offering multiple services for local elderly residents, youth and families.

The opening ceremony of the revitalised building was held today (10 March), attended by Club Steward Sir C K Chow; Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong SAR Matthew Cheung; Bishop of the Diocese of Western Kowloon, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican) The Rt Rev Andrew Chan; and YWCA Chairman Patricia Woo.

Sir C K Chow noted that the Club had worked closely with the YWCA over the years on almost 80 projects. “We have been delighted to support the renovation of the YWCA Jockey Club Social Service Building to meet the many impending needs of the community including family wellness, active ageing and youth development,” he said. “The Club is one of the world's top ten charity donors and will continue to support a wide range of charities projects to assist more beneficiaries and contribute to the community’s long-term sustainable development.”

The majority of the Club’s donation has gone towards upgrading the YWCA’s Kowloon Social Service Hub which occupies the ground to fifth floors of the building. The Hub comprises the YWCA Jockey Club Y Care Elderly Centre which offers daytime elderly care services; the YWCA Jockey Club Y Evergreen Learning Centre which provides continuing education, volunteer and social support groups for younger seniors; the YWCA Jockey Club Family Wellness Centre which organises family enrichment and wellness programmes; and the YWCA Jockey Club Y Plus+ Talent Development Centre which offers youth development training. In addition, the donation has enabled two 14-seater vehicles to be purchased to provide transport for users of the YWCA Jockey Club Y Care Elderly Centre

The revitalised YWCA Jockey Club Social Service Building incorporates a number of green features to achieve energy savings and help ensure sustainable operations. It is expected to benefit over 13, 000 people annually.
