The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course voted best public golf course in Asia Pacific

12/02/2016

Two decades ago, to make golf available and affordable to the wider community, The Hong Kong Jockey Club funded the establishment of Hong Kong's only public golfing facility - The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course (KSC). The course has recently been named the 'Best Public Golf Course in Asia Pacific' in the Asian Golf Awards 2016 which recognises the efforts made by KSC to provide top-class services to members of the public.

Now in their 17th year, the Asian Golf Awards are widely recognised as the premier awards for golfing facilities in the region, supported by both the industry and the public. The organiser runs an annual poll to identify the best golf courses in Asia Pacific in which golfers, golf industry personnel and readers of the magazine Asian Golf Monthly vote over a three-month period to determine the top ten facilities in various categories.

Prior to this latest award, KSC was named 'Best New Golf Course in Asia' in 2008 for its then newly opened East Course and 'Best Value for Money Experience Golf Course' in 2011 under the same scheme.

Bringing sports to the community at large has long been a prime objective of the Club. Opened in 1995 with funding from the Club's Charities Trust, KSC aims to make the sport accessible to all, providing golf training to people of all ages and abilities, including disabled players and the Club-sponsored Special Olympics team. It is the first golf course in Hong Kong to apply solar-powered canopies and GPS control to its entire fleet of golf carts and uses solar-hybrid catamarans to ferry passengers between the course and Sai Kung pier. These green initiatives help KSC reduce its energy consumption, decrease carbon dioxide emissions and reduce marine pollution.

The Club has long been committed to helping Hong Kong strengthen its sporting infrastructure, as well as to promoting a sporting culture in the city and assisting the professional development of Hong Kong athletes. In the past decade alone, the Club has contributed over HK$1.9 billion to sports development. With the vision that 'All Hong Kong people should Love, Value and Play Sports', the Club has recently earmarked approximately HK$155 million to support the five innovative Sports for All programmes, which are expected to benefit over 240,000 people.
