Speaking after the initial Board meeting, new Chairman Mr Chow paid tribute to his predecessor.  "Dr Simon Ip oversaw the crucial final stages of two enormously important projects for the Club and for the community we serve: Tai Kwun – Centre for Heritage and Arts and the new racecourse and training centre at Conghua, just outside Guangzhou. These are very significant achievements,” he said. “Simon was also instrumental in shaping our charities strategy, in particular initiatives focusing on four strategic areas: youth; the elderly; sports; and arts, culture and heritage. Multi-year projects are underway in all four areas.”

“In terms of racing, the Club has enjoyed enormous success under Simon’s chairmanship. We now have 12 international Group 1 races in Hong Kong. Both they and our horses regularly feature among the world’s best. Most significantly, two years ago, Hong Kong was elevated to Part 1 of the Blue Book, the highest status a racing jurisdiction can earn. This was a tremendous accolade for Hong Kong racing. With Conghua Racecourse establishing a firm foundation for the future development of our world-class racing, and the Club providing record levels of support to the community, Simon leaves the Club in excellent shape.”

As regards the future, Mr Chow said he was very much looking forward to carrying on the work of the Club in support of the community. “The Club’s purpose as a world-class racing club is to act continuously for the betterment of our society. We achieve this through our unique integrated business model of racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charity and community contribution. So our objective is quite clear: to keep on developing the Club’s performance across every aspect of its business model, so that we can continue providing the best possible support to the community.”
