The Hong Kong Jockey Club today (29 December) is pleased to announce an approved donation of up to HK$630 million to support a series of initiatives by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.
"In the past 25 years, Hong Kong has flourished with the full support of our country. As for the Club, it has stayed true to its purpose of acting continuously for the betterment of Hong Kong, supporting the city's growth and development. On the special occasion of the 25th anniversary of the HKSAR, the Club is delighted to lend its support to initiatives that will instill positive energy and benefit the overall well-being of our community," said Club Chairman Philip Chen.
"The Club's support for the anniversary programmes, like all of its charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax and charity support for the community. It reflects the Club's strong commitment to Hong Kong and to helping people of all ages and from all walks of life build a better life and future in our city," Mr Chen added.
The funding will support around 60 initiatives covering five key areas: arts and culture; sports; support to the underprivileged; sustainability; and international conferences.
The HKSAR Government will launch a series of initiatives to mark its 25th anniversary. For details, please refer to the government website: www.hksar25.gov.hk.
