Striding On: At Home in Her Job – Winnie Ho

07/21/2024

In the July issue of Striding On magazine, Live Talk features Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho. Describing herself as curious and quick-witted, she can relate to her favourite fictional wuxia character, Huang Rong, and the imaginative Japanese manga character Doraemon. She explains how she is inspired by their positivity, which can be applied in many areas of life.

Ho appreciates Huang Rong’s intelligence and agility, saying she is “flexible in handling problems”. On Doraemon, Ho says he is lovely, smart and able to solve any problem. “As one goes through life, there are difficulties. Think of the magic pocket (like the one Doraemon has). Life will find a way out,” she says.

Ho is grateful to the Club for launching JC PROJECT LIFT, which aims to provide financial literacy education, parenting guidance and everyday life skills for grass-roots families living in the transitional housing. She believes the “software” provided by the Club and the “hardware” provided by the Government are complementary. “Transitional housing stays where it is, but the knowledge acquired will remain with the residents wherever they go,” she remarks.

In JC Voice, a veterinary medicine student shares how she chanced to adopt a kitten and reveals how the experience changed both their lives.

Standing Together introduces the “Jockey Club PHARM+ Community Medication Service Network” project, which provides accessible and affordable dispensing services, and more.

The latest issue of Striding On can be read online on the Club’s website (in Chinese only) at http://corporate.hkjc.com/corporate/operation/chinese/striding-on.aspx.
