Over 5,500 visitors attend Tuen Mun Public Riding School Open Day to celebrate Jockey Club’s 140th anniversary and school’s 30th anniversary

11/10/2024

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Tuen Mun Public Riding School held an open day today (10 November) as one of the activities under the “With you. Then. Now. Always.” campaign in celebration of the Club’s 140th anniversary. The open day attracted more than 5,500 visitors to the school, which also marks its 30th anniversary this year.

Highlights of the open day included pony rides, stable visits, horse simulator experiences, photo-taking with mini ponies, equestrian demonstrations by the Club’s Youth and Para squads, as well as fun-filled game booths and exciting activities co-organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). The Club’s CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team also joined in the celebration bringing joy to participants with body-painting magic.

The Club is a long-standing supporter of equestrian sport and operates three public riding schools – in Tuen Mun, Lei Yue Mun and Pok Fu Lam (currently under redevelopment) – which attract over 60,000 attendees every year.

Opened in 1994, Tuen Mun Public Riding School is now one of Hong Kong’s most popular venues for equestrian activities and its four stable blocks are home to some 100 horses. It is the largest public riding school managed by the Club, providing the public with opportunities to enjoy equestrian sport through a wide range of lessons, activities and visits. The school also supports the Riding for the Disabled Association, which provides therapeutic riding lessons for children and adults with disabilities.

In addition to operating three public riding schools, the Club also established The Hong Kong Jockey Club Equestrian Team, youth and children’s squad, as well as para squad to develop the potential of Hong Kong, China’s elite riders in collaboration with the Hong Kong Sports Institute and the Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong, China.

The Club has come a long way since its founding as a racing and members club. Over the past 140 years, its partnership with the community has thrived thanks to a unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax contributions, charity support and employment opportunities for Hong Kong. The Club – under the banner “With You. Then. Now. Always.” – has organised a series of celebratory initiatives to mark this milestone and recognise Hong Kong people’s contribution to its mission to act continuously for the betterment of society.
