In support of the country’s football talent development, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club), in partnership with Manchester United, has established a football training camp programme. The 2024 winners of the U15 category of the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Youth Football Championship, the Hubei Provincial Football Association’s U15 squad (Hubei U15), visited the UK in October to take part in the programme’s first training camp, which aims to improve the skills and abilities of the young Chinese players and cultivate talents for the national team.
During their three weeks in the UK, the Hubei U15 took part in training courses organised by Manchester United, visited Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium and museum, watched home games of Manchester United and its youth teams, and played six friendly matches with the Manchester United Academy U16 squad and other local youth football teams.
In addition, they watched the 2024/25 English Premier League U16 National Tournament and attended training courses led by coaches from the English Football Association at St George’s Park, the training centre of England’s national football team.
The Club has been the Official Community Football Partner of Manchester United in Hong Kong since 2012, launching programmes in support of youth football development at the elite, school and community levels. In 2024, the Club stepped up cooperation with Manchester United to organise two football training camps annually for young players in the western region of the Mainland. A special fund was set up under the guidance of the General Administration of Sport of China, which supports the training camp programme. Hubei U15 was the first team to participate following its victory in the U15 category of the CFA Youth Football Championship.
