Marking the 100-day countdown to the opening of the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NGD & NSOG), representatives from The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club) joined a countdown event today (2 August) at the Hong Kong Velodrome to celebrate this important moment with the community. The Club, as a world-class sports organisation, is the sole Partner Sponsor of the Games’ Hong Kong Competition Region and is supporting the Guangdong Competition Region.
Club Steward Lester Huang attended the “100-day countdown event for the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (Hong Kong)” and witnessed members of the Club’s CARE@hkjc volunteer team complete the “100-Day to the National Games – All Together for 1 Million KM Challenge” together with other participants. One of a number of activities to engage the community ahead of the National Games, the challenge saw participants collectively complete 999,900 kilometres of sporting activities throughout July, including walking, running and cycling. A final 100-kilometre sprint was completed at today’s event. Both the event and the challenge were organised by the National Games Coordination Office (Hong Kong) (NGCO).
During the National Games, NGD & NSOG, around 100 members of the Club’s CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team will help out as Group Volunteers for the Hong Kong Competition Region. Reflecting the Club’s purpose - the betterment of society - these dedicated staff members will undergo 13 hours of training to prepare for their roles.
At today’s event, participants joined in the community celebrations at the carnival’s Jockey Club booth, set up to showcase the Club’s contribution to sports development through interactive games. To further engage the community, the Club will also have a booth as part of the “2025 National Games Fiesta” roving exhibition series, organised by NGCO, which will be held from August to October across shopping malls in Hong Kong to highlight support for this year’s National Games, NGD and NSOG.
As the sole Partner Sponsor of the National Games, NGD & NSOG for the Hong Kong Competition Region, the Club and its Charities Trust are together providing a total of HK$450 million in support, making them the highest-tier sponsor. The Club’s sponsorship will specifically support volunteer service programmes, territory-wide community and school promotional activities, and initiatives enabling underprivileged groups and youth to attend the events as spectators.
The Club is also supporting the National Games, NGD & NSOG in the Guangdong Competition Region through official activities, volunteer services and promotion work, as well as providing high-quality technical support for the equestrian events. For these initiatives, the Club has committed RMB50 million.
