Temporary Closure of Pokfulam Public Riding School for redevelopment from 1 August 2022 until the autumn of 2025

15/06/2022

Thank you for your continued support to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Public Riding Schools. The Hong Kong Jockey Club (The Club) has been working continuously to promote equestrian sport to the community of Hong Kong. Part of our efforts are enhancing the overall levels of participation, both through the expansion of our existing schools as well as the development of new facilities.

The Club’s Pokfulam Public Riding School (PFLPRS) was built in 1978 and is now 44 years old. Whilst it has served the community over many years, the ageing facility no longer provides an ideal environment for providing equestrian activity to riders. Following a detailed feasibility study, it was determined that action needed to be taken to ensure the long-term sustainable provision of riding at PFLPRS. Therefore, the riding school will undertake a full redevelopment, commencing September 2022.

The new facility will be able to house more horses and ponies, as well as provide a fully covered arena to make riding more enjoyable for our riders and horses. The new development will also allow for an increase in available lessons, as well as providing new services such as simulator lessons, stable tours and riding demonstrations.

Please be advised that with effect from 1 August 2022, PFLPRS will temporarily close to facilitate the redevelopment of the school. Looking forward, the school is anticipated to open again in the autumn 2025. The modern and high quality facility will bring you more excitement and enjoyment of equestrian sport.

In the interim, Tuen Mun Public Riding School (TMPRS) will increase its operations and open its doors to the public for 7 days a week starting from September 2022 (subject to The Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s approval). Priority will be given to displaced PFLPRS riders for the additional sessions generated.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and sincerely thank you for your understanding. The Club remains deeply committed to providing the joy of equestrian sport to the community of Hong Kong. We look forward to welcoming you back to the new PFLPRS!
