Soccer 4 concludes as the community enjoys football fun across generations

The fourth Hong Kong Jockey Club Soccer 4 tournament was held at Sha Tin Racecourse during the Easter holidays. The event was attended by over 750 young players, coaches and parents, as wells Andy Cole, one of Manchester United’s legendary players. The tournaments gave a chance to all participants to pursue their football dreams, as they enjoyed learning fun together across generations.

As one of the competitive activities at the HKJC Riding High Together Festival, the Soccer 4 tournament, held in the "Pursuit of a Football Dream" zone, had attracted the participation of 86 teams competing in nine categories. This is the highest number of groups, teams and participants since the Soccer 4 tournament began.

Age Group – Northern District crowned champions at newly-introduced U12 Boys tournament

Joining the U13 and U15 groups in the boys age group this year was the newly-introduced U12 group that was won by Northern District, whilst Kwai Tsing and Kitchee scooped the champions for U13 and U15, respectively. In the girls group, Kowloon Team A and New Territories East Team A won the Cup champions in the U11 and U14 groups, respectively.

School group – CCK championed in first attempt – Chan Young wins its third straight

In the school group, which includes the partner schools of the HKJC School Football Development Scheme, the Chinese Manufacturers' Association Choi Cheung Kok Secondary School (CCK) won the championship in only its first time competing in the tournament, whilst in the girls group, SKH Chan Young Secondary School defeated Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School (West Kowloon) and took home the Cup Championship again for the third straight time.

Kowloon South claims the championship and 2nd runner up spots in parents-and-kids group

The parents-and-kids group comprised 12 teams formed by parents and their children aged six to eight years old who had attended the HKJC Pass It On – Parent Football Workshop. After the preliminaries and eliminations, Kowloon South 2011 defeated New Territories West and took home the championship, whilst New Territories West, Kowloon South 2012 and Kowloon West took the first, second and third runners-up spots.

Hong Kong Conghua Primary School Invitational – Conghua team A claims the championship

The Hong Kong Conghua Primary School Invitational was newly introduced this year to promote exchange between youngsters through football. The two primary school teams representing the HKJC School Football Development Scheme competed against the two teams formed by primary students of Conghua, Guangzhou. Finally, Conghua team A and Jordan Road Government Primary School scored equal points; yet since the former had a better loss-point ratio, they were crowned the champions.

Besides the Soccer 4 tournament, the “Pursuit of Football Dream” in Zone 6 featured a series of performance and football activities. The zone offered a football game suitable for both young and old called “I’m a Sharp Shooter”. Meanwhile, over 130 children aged between four to ten participated in the “Let’s Play Mini-Soccer” hosted by Christopher O’Brien, Head Coach of the Manchester United Soccer School Hong Kong. Twenty members of the HKJC Youth Football Leadership Scheme also joined hands with the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Association team in a “Amazing Rope Skipping” performance.

The efforts of the young players, together the chants and support from parents and coaches, and the enjoyment of the audience, created an energetic and delightful atmosphere in the football game zones. Some parents received a certificate from Cole after having a taste of being their children’s coaches. Overall, it was a memorable experience for the families.

  After completing the Pass It On – Parents Football Workshop, 13 parent coaches received certificates of completion from Andy Cole, one of Manchester United’s legendary players. The certificate commemorates the unforgettable experience they co-created with their children.
