Team spirit starts with good communications (04/01/2017)
As a teacher, it is regrettable to see students quit from what they like because of challenges.
Jason Leung has been a teacher at HCY for six years. He has witnessed many students being passionate about football but later walked away from their favourite sport because of different challenges and reasons. Their passions are transient and they left behind their aspiration for football.
Jason hopes that through the JC School Football Development Scheme, he can equip himself to solve students’ problem and become their companion in what they enjoy to do. He’d like to see students be rewarded from their enjoyable football experience, so that not only each of them shows individual improvement, but also enhances the cooperation amongst the players, teachers and coaches, turning the football team into a big family.
Build a positive learning environment (Updated on 26/04/2017)
HCY is a school which puts strong emphasis on academic results. However, Principal Yun Ming Tse appreciates the importance of the physical development to teenagers and takes the lead in reserving resources for the football team, hoping that students can have an all-rounded development.
Principal Tse believes that sports can enhance students’ attention span as well as their ability in time management. Most importantly, they can achieve a sense of fulfillment outside of the textbooks and demonstrate positive results of the Play to Learn approach. The HCY teacher team, including Jason Leung, Tim Lai and Mei Yan Wong, is able to explore brand new education philosophy from the JC School Football Development Scheme. They are able to build up a positive teaching environment for football which encourages the players to persist in what they enjoy, and eventually promote the sports culture at school.
Principal Tse revealed that the young teaching team, including Jason, had brought lots of new stimulations to the sports culture at school, including the setup of gymnasium and sports team, all of which have enabled students to take a break to refresh their thinking and relax through sports while they are under the academic pressure, so as to help them achieve a balanced life and development.
It is believed that a positive learning environment can make the players realise that they should not set back when they face challenges, but to overcome them and carry on their passion.
Learning to persist through football (Updated on 02/08/2017)
After three school visits, the HCY coaching team has influenced all players to throw themselves into football. Concluding the results from the JC School Football Development Scheme, Mei Yan expressed that as a coach, she feels most encouraged seeing players realise the importance of persistence from football.
The half-year coach training had come to an end. Mei Yan had learnt from Christopher O’Brien, Head Coach of Manchester United Soccer School, how to let students enjoy the process and provides them with trust so as to let them grow. As for the future of the football team, Mei Yan looks forward to enhancing the bonding amongst the players. Through football, she will continue to encourage them to carry on the passion and persist in what they love to do.
