Using football to inspire enthusiasm in teaching (11/01/2017)
No matter teacher or coach, the real reason they do what they do is to positively influence the next generation.
For Stephen Yeung Tsz Leung, teacher of POH 80th Anniversary Tang Ying Hei College, football has inspired his love of teaching. In order to be a more well-rounded coach, he courageously made a change that required some tough training. Stephen teaches Chinese language, and he believes that football is also a way to teach the younger generation about good behaviour and interpersonal skills.
“Humans develop just as flowers blossom – the outcome can be absolutely beautiful.” This fervour in inspiring youngsters has motivated Stephen to participate in the JC School Football Development Scheme and mentor the next generation, carefully nurturing these flowers until they blossom.
Football inspires values (Updated on 13/04/2017)
Football is not only a team sport that trains physical strength and stresses cooperation, but it also inspires people to rethink their values and take a new direction in life. To Stephen, a teacher at POH 80th Anniversary Tang Ying Hei College, football inspires him to educate young people, and is a tool that he uses to teach them.
Football has inspired Stephen, and he hopes to bring the same inspiration to the younger generation. His love of teaching has been recognised by Dr Ambrose Chong, principal of the school, who hopes that through the JC School Football Development Scheme, Stephen can teach his students how to positively interact with others, both in attitude and action. Dr Chong believes that the systematic football training offered by the Scheme is an invaluable learning experience that has the added benefit of enhancing a teacher’s teaching methods. After the coaches and players have learned the Manchester United Soccer School training methods, they are able to pass on skills and other good practices to younger students.
Passion inspires the younger generation (Updated on 23/06/2017)
Soccer is not just a sport; it can be a passion – a passion that can inspire the younger generation and motivate them to pass on the traditions they have learnt.
Participating in the JC School Football Development Scheme has inspired the enthusiastic coaching team from POH 80th Anniversary Tang Ying Hei College to pass on a love of football to the next generation.
Coach Victor Hau said that the JC School Football Development Scheme has successfully promoted football culture at school. When Christopher O’Brien, Head Coach of Manchester United Soccer School visited the school, he expanded the players’ horizons and made football a highly-recognised sport. This was proven by the significant increase in the number of football team players, as well as in the training hours.
Victor believes that the growing popularity of football at school not only benefits the players’ technical skills on the field, but also has a positive effect on their attitudes towards one another. Both are invaluable to leading an inspired life!
