Graduating Once Again! Teachers Score New Goals through Fun Football Programme

18/05/2023

Teachers are known for their demanding schedules. So what motivated them to become students again in their spare time? After six months of training and practice, the teachers who participated in the 9th Jockey Club School Football Development Programme have completed the Programme with a renewed sense of passion to youth development, as they demonstrated during the graduation ceremony.

Tsui Kai-lung, a teacher of the SKH Chi Fu Chi Nam Primary School, said that he initially knew nothing about football, unable to even tell the difference between cleats and regular sport shoes.  During the programme, he learned a training model that teaches and inspires through fun and encouragement, and implemented this in his own classroom. “Success in football should not be equivalent to success in academics. The most important thing is to enjoy the process of improvement and development alongside the children,” he shared.

The students at the affiliated schools, including Po Leung Kuk Hong Kong Taoist Association Yuen Yuen Primary School which has just formed its own football this year, also learned the importance of cultivating team spirit. Student Ng Chi-Ha says he is looking forward to “help new teammates integrate into the big football family and support one another,” showing a positive attitude.

Hong Kong Jockey Club Head of Brand and Digital Marketing Channels Florian Jungbauer addressed the graduates during the ceremony, saying: “A graduation marks the beginning of a new journey. Let’s continue to unleash our potential through football and welcome a brighter tomorrow with the young generation.”

  • Teacher Tsui Kai-lung believes that the lifelong soft skills students learn on the football field are more valuable than simply winning the match.
  • Teacher Lee Shing-wang from the Po Leung Kuk Tang Yuk Tien College believes that the Programme will help his students broaden their social circles through participating in more interscholastic competitions.
